I have a headache

Well, I've just got back from a party (not a full-scale rave, mind you) where I drank alcohol properly for the first time, so I had no preconceived notions of what being drunk feels like. I just felt hyper with a headache lingering in the background, and I still have the headache now. They kept telling me that I just needed to get past it, but I don't think I did. Judging by this typing, I am clearly not "smashed", but the "hyperness" was quite enjoyable.

I should go now,

Brit Awards Rant, or Why Am I Surrounded By Idiots?

Well, the Brit Awards were last night. Not actually that much of a big deal in terms of music really (as long as nothing really ~controversial~ happens, who's going to remember it?), but I love awards shows, so I watched it anyway :D Adele was magnificent and emotional and I love how she sounds EXACTLY the same live as she does on the record, and I thought the glitter confetti stuff was a nice touch. Rihanna was shoite in comparison - she can perform dancing-wise, but those were some really terrible vocals, Ri-Ri.

And then Arcade Fire won Best International Album and Group, and Facebook erupted, with people complaining that they hadn't heard of them, and then having the nerve to call their performance of Ready to Start crap!! And then complaining that Eminem "should of won". Firstly, it's "should have". And secondly: NO YOU BANDWAGON-JUMPING MUSICALLY-OBLIVIOUS YEAR EIGHT. Omg one girl actually complained that Eminem wasn't nominated for Best British Album. ARE YOU AN IDIOT OR SOMETHING.

But on a victorious note, Laura Marling and Cee Lo Green won awards! I can't express how much Laura deserves it; she's only 21 yet she's crafted two beautiful albums, and her voice is indescribable. And if anyone bothered to listen to anything other than Forget/Fuck You, they'll realise The Lady Killer is so much more than that (good but ridiculously over-played) song.

I must do some art homework now, or it's never going to get done. I need to work on my "finishing homework before midnight" skills.

I'm back!

I finally realised that it was a bit of a waste having a Livejournal and lurking in communities every day and never actually posting, so I'm going to try and post something at least every few days. It might be a book review, a song that I like, or general musings on what's going on in the world (or my amazingly eventful life).

I seriously doubt anyone will actually read this, but here's some stuff going on in my life at the moment:
  • I'm in the final year of secondary school, so things are a bit hectic. It seems like there's an exam or hugely important piece of coursework of some sort going on all the time, and I've just started my four-weeks-long preparation for my GCSE Art exam, which counts for roughly 75% of the final mark. And I have a massive final piece still to do for coursework from the previous year. No, I'm not stressed at all :|
  • I'm currently trying to lose a bit of weight :3  I'm not terribly obese or anything, but I've always been a chubby girl and although I'm a huge advocate for plus-size beauty, deep down I would very much like to be a few dress sizes smaller. Not too thin mind, I wouldn't like to get any smaller than a 10-12. So I'm off to Slimming World every Monday with my Mam and sister! It's a pretty good diet (if ever there was one), and I would really recommend it - it's nowhere near as restrictive as other ones, and the most important thing is that I can have UNLIMITED AMOUNTS OF PASTA. I LOVE PASTA SO MUCH. I've lost four pounds so far!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I'm going to be in college in less than a year!!! Me! How the hell am I old enough to be nearly in college?!! The future is speeding towards me awfully quickly and it's a little scary, to say the least. I'm going to be staying on for sixth form at my current school, because it's four minutes away from my house, I'm not a big fan of change and I am too much of a scaredy cat to be away from my friends for two years. I'm going to be doing History, English Literature, English Language, and German, all at A-Level. Three essay subjects and a language - what am I letting myself in for?
  • I'm thinking about writing a book :| :| :| :|  I've always wanted to be a writer but I haven't really written anything longer than a short story. The characters are always in my head and I've thought of a lot of the plot, but I'm reluctant to start in case it turns out to be terrible :S It's set immediately after the First World War, so I'll have to do quite a bit of research to get such a significant part of history just right.
  • I'm off to Berlin in July on a school trip, which I'm quite excited about :D And then not long after that I'm going on a residential to Durham University with three other people from my year, to get a taster of what university is like, which should be interesting!
Well, that's the most I can squeeze out of my amazing life... goodbye!

Happy (slightly belated) birthday Gerard Way!!!!

Another picspam for a birthday boy! This time it's the legendary Gerard Way, whose birthday was April 9th. Mr. Way is a fantastically talented singer, musician and artist, and not to mention pretty damn sexy for a 32-year-old dude.

So I will just cut to the chase and get on with this. (Geddit? Cut... LJ cut... oh I give up)

Happy birthday Ryan!!!!! :D

Today it is the legendary (amazing, clever, talented, gorgeous, skinny-as-hell, etc.) Ryan Ross of Panic at the Disco's 22nd birthday, and I am completely and utterly in love with him (I must tone down the fangirly-ness in future :P), so in his honour, I will do a Ryan Ross picspam!

Meh, kei_the_ripper tagged me so now I have to fill in this little doo-dah.

1. What are your reasons for having a LJ?
To post stuff I have written and to make friends.

2. Vices?
I can eat whole tubes of Fruit Pastilles and not get sick. (I'm not sure if that's a vice or a freaky ability...)

3. What would you do with a million dollars/pounds?
Give half to my mam and dad, put half in the bank (but probably save a hundred quid or something for now).

4. What is the city of your dreams and why?
London, 'cos I went there with some friends last December and it is amaaaazing and beautiful and just amazing :D

5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
It depends on who I'm with, but mostly introvert, I'd say.

6. What are five things that made you happy lately?
Music, reading, sleeping over at my friend Nicola's house :D, getting my new My Chemical Romance schoolbag, Fruit Pastilles

7. Do you trust easily?
Depends on who I have to trust.

8. What is your earliest memory?
Not sure, but I can remember back to when I was 4 and I got a random little certificate 'cos I was the only one in my year who could read.

9. Is there anything that made you unhappy these days?
My sister has been playing really bad music on her laptop non-stop, and she has lost her headphones; I can't go to the We Are Scientists gig in my town on Tuesday 'cos I am too young, and it is almost time to go back to school! :(

10. What is your best quality?
Apparently I'm pretty intelligent.

11. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Tuna, 'cos I'm weird :D

12. What are you in 5 years?
Hopefully going to university after having finished sixth form.

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
A nice, funny person. Pretty troubled, from what I've read on his LJ, but nice nonetheless.

15. Would you rather be single and rich or married and poor?
Married and poor, so long as I love the person I'm married to.

16. Name a food that you absolutely hate.

17. What's better to give or receive?
To give.

18. What is your oldest userpic and why has it survived when you delete the others?
It's blue and it says: "Before Bella Swan moved here, we all thought he was gay..." and I've had that for ages 'cos I though it was funny and I couldn't be bothered to change it. I need to...

19. What would you do if  your biggest man/woman crush propose you?
Probably laugh 'cos I'm too young to get married and he just wouldn't.

20. Do you believe love at first sight?

21. What would you name your kids?
Isobel Helena (after the MCR song) and/or Eva Juliet (after the Dire Straits song Romeo and Juliet), and maybe Blake for a boy. God, I'm way too young to be thinking about this stuff.

I tag anyone who reads this, unless they've already done it.

Writer's Block: Your Username

Why did you choose your user name? Is there any special meaning or story behind it?
Well, I was listening to "Red Socks Pugie" by Foals when I made a LiveJournal account, and one of the lyrics goes "hearts swell, which make us explode" or something like that, and I just used the words hearts and explode and put an x in the middle to make heartsxexplode.
Plus I like the word explode :P

Writer's Block: A Posthumous Oscar for Joker?

Well, I haven't seen the Dark Knight but I've heard that Heath was amazing in it, but even if he didn't do a good job, I doubt anyone would have the heart (or the guts) to slate him.
If he was still alive and he won an Oscar it would have been based solely on his acting talent, but if he wins it now, don't you think it will be (at least partly) because of the fact that he is no longer with us.
Rant over.
Do you think Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar for his role in the Dark Knight?
